The spiritual healing care of Christian Science nurses is a core service offered at Arden Wood. This care is provided by a team of nurses and assistants who work together to meet each patient’s physical needs through tender, loving, skilled nursing. They also help each patient gain greater understanding of their healing through the study of Christian Science, which is based on the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy.
Each patient who comes to Arden Wood for skillful Christian Science nursing receives care under the oversight of an experienced nurse. This care is consistent with the theology of Christian Science as explained in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Patients must be working daily with a Christian Science practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal and be free from the use of medication, both over-the-counter and prescription.
All individuals receiving Christian Science health care at Arden Wood are required to designate a home and care guarantor prior to arriving. The home and care guarantor is an individual who will take responsibility for making arrangements to get the patient home or elsewhere when their stay at Arden Wood is over, and he or she ensures that any necessary assistance or care is in place when the patient departs the care facility.
Gracious residential apartments, weekly housekeeping services, beautiful gardens, woodland pathways, and fully-equipped libraries are all a part of the experience at Arden Wood. These amenities provide a peaceful environment for residents to refresh thought and delve more deeply into their studies of Christian Science unencumbered by day-to-day activities.
Guests who stay at Arden Wood are provided with three meals each day that are prepared by our Christian Science chefs and served in the care facility’s dining room. Each meal is nutritious and well-balanced. In addition to the meal, snacks are available throughout the day.
The CSNA III course builds on the foundation laid in previous courses and explores further the art of ministering to the individual in support of their healing ministry. Spiritual qualities, ethics, sound judgment, and practical skills are emphasized. Emphasis continues to be placed on a demonstrated readiness to represent oneself as a Christian Science nurse in accordance with the requirements set forth in The Christian Science Manual of The Mother Church. Section 31 states, “A member of The Mother Church who represents herself as a Christian Science nurse shall have a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice.” See Manual, Chapter X, Sect. 31, page 294.
